Secondary synovial osteochondromatosis

Case contributed by Dr Imad Awwad

Old male patient with bilateral knee pain and occasional joints locking.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Both knees (AP and lateral)

Multiple variable sized calcified intra-articular loose bodies are noted bilaterally. Additionally, marked degenerative changes like joint space narrowing, subcondral sclerosis, and osteophytes formation are evident, more prominently at the medial aspect of both knee joints and at the level of the patellofemoral joints.

Case Discussion

Findings are highly suggestive of secondary synovial osteochondromatosis on the background of degenerative joint disease.
