Neonatal knee septic arthritis

13 days neonate with swelling of left knee on examination. Overnight development of knee swelling. Lab - high WBC count , high CRP.

Patient Data

Age: 13 days

Metaphyseal lucent bands are noted (normal in neonates) on the frontal projection. Soft tissue swelling around the left knee. 


Suprapatellar complex effusion with peripheral vascularity. 

Case Discussion

Surgery the next day proved Septic arthritis but without evidence of osteomyelitis.
