Azygos fissure

Case contributed by Dr Jeremy Jones

Shortness of breath

Increased opacification at the right apex represents an azygos fissure, a normal variant. It does not represent collapse.

The lungs are well expanded and clear. Normal cardiomediastinal contour.

Limited CT of the upper chest.

The CT confirms the presence of an azygos fissure and also confirms that there is no associated mass lesion or collapse. This is an incidental normal variant. No further follow up is required.

Case Discussion

CXR and CT chest appearances of an azygos fissure requiring no additional follow up.
